Overview

What it is and where it fits

This is a wall control panel, not a hub, and getting that wrong is the expensive mistake in this category. It goes into a standard switch back box and gives a room a touchscreen with a physical rotary dial for scenes, lighting, curtains and climate. Your Zigbee sensors, curtain motors and switches still pair to a hub such as the M2 or M100, and this is the screen in front of that system. The dial is the reason to pick it over a flat panel. Turning a knob to dim a light or set a curtain position is something anyone understands without instruction, which is exactly the point in a majlis or an entrance used by guests, children and household staff who will never be added to a home app. Two site checks decide whether it can be fitted at all: back box depth and the presence of a neutral wire. Both are answered by taking one switch plate off. Specify it for two or three positions that people actually use rather than every switch in the villa, where the cost climbs quickly for very little over a normal smart switch.

  • A dial anyone can use without being shown how
  • One touch for a whole scene instead of several app taps
  • Fits an existing switch position, no new wall plate design
  • Keeps the room usable for guests and staff who are not on the app

What to check before you order

Back box depth is the usual blocker in Dubai villas, where shallow boxes are common and deepening one means opening the wall. The neutral wire is the second check: present in most newer villa wiring, missing in a fair number of older apartments. We take a plate off during the site visit and confirm both before anything is ordered. The positions worth fitting are the entrance, the majlis and the master bedroom, because those are the rooms where somebody outside the household needs to change the lights or the curtains. It does not replace your hub, and a panel bought without one leaves you with a screen and nothing behind it.

Aqara in the UAE. Sold through several authorised UAE resellers rather than one exclusive distributor. Wide local stock and the broadest single-hub ecosystem available in UAE retail.

Questions about the Aqara Touchscreen Dial V1

Is this a hub?
Chevron down icon
No. It is the wall interface to a system that still needs its own hub. Aqara sensors, curtain motors and switches pair to an M2, M100 or similar, and this panel controls them. Buying the panel alone gets you a screen with nothing behind it.

How is it different from the V1 Display Switch?
Chevron down icon
The dial. Both are wall panels that replace a switch and run scenes, and neither is a hub. The rotary control makes dimming and curtain position a physical action rather than a drag on a screen, which is easier for guests and for anyone who does not want to look at the panel while adjusting it.

Will it fit my wall box?
Chevron down icon
It needs a standard back box with enough depth and a neutral wire. Villa wiring here usually has the neutral and older apartments often do not, while depth is the more common blocker. One switch plate off during the site visit answers both questions.
