Overview

What it is and where it fits

The SwitchBot NFC Tag (model W1501000) is a small round sticker you place on any flat surface. There is no battery inside and nothing to charge. When you tap your phone on it, the phone's NFC reader powers the tag for a split second and runs whatever action you set. Reading distance is very short, around 0.5 to 2 cm, so you hold the top of the phone right against it. On its own, one tap can open the SwitchBot app or run an iOS Siri Shortcut, like joining home Wi-Fi, setting a morning alarm, or opening a maps route. Pair it over Bluetooth and a tap can control one nearby SwitchBot device directly, for example a SwitchBot Lock, Curtain, Blind Tilt, or Bot. To fire a full Scene that moves several devices at once, you also need a SwitchBot Hub Mini, Hub 2, or Hub 3, sold separately, because Scenes run through the cloud. In a Dubai apartment or villa this is a cheap way to add tap points by the door, the bedside, or the car. Tenants can use it freely since it only sticks on and peels off, with no wiring and no landlord permission needed. Be clear on the limits. It is not a lock, a hub, or a sensor. It does nothing by itself and does nothing for guests who do not have your phone set up. It suits people who already own SwitchBot gear, not first-time buyers looking for a full system.

  • No battery, no charging, no wiring at all
  • One tap fires a Siri Shortcut or SwitchBot action
  • Waterproof ABS body copes with Dubai heat and damp
  • Three tags per box for the door, bedside and car

What to check before you order

Dubai homes are a good fit for a tap tag because so many people rent. This one sticks on and peels off, so a tenant can place tags without touching walls, wiring, or asking the landlord. Villa or apartment makes no difference, since the tag does not control your door lock hardware by itself. Heat and damp are not a problem. The ABS body is waterproof and corrosion-resistant, so a tag near the entrance, in a humid bathroom, or in a hot parked car should hold up through summer. There is no battery to swell or die in the heat. It needs no DEWA connection and no fixed power, since your phone powers it at the tap. Wi-Fi only matters if the action you set needs the internet, like a cloud Scene. Buy the genuine 3-pack from us and you get UAE support and the 1-year warranty, instead of paying more per tag through an import listing.

Questions about the SwitchBot NFC Tag

What is the SwitchBot NFC Tag?
Chevron down icon
It is a small round sticker with an NFC chip inside. There is no battery. When you tap an NFC phone on it, the tag runs an action you set up first, like opening an app or triggering a SwitchBot device. Think of it as a physical shortcut button you can stick anywhere.

Will it fit my villa or apartment front door?
Chevron down icon
It fits any door because it just sticks on. The tag is 30 mm wide and under 1 mm thick, so it sits flat on wood, metal, glass, or the wall beside the frame. It does not replace or attach to your existing lock hardware.

Can a tenant use it, and do I need landlord permission?
Chevron down icon
Yes, tenants can use it freely. It sticks on with 3M adhesive and peels off later, leaving no holes and no wiring. You do not need landlord permission because you are not changing the door, the wall, or any DEWA connection.

Does it need Wi-Fi or a hub to work?
Chevron down icon
Not for basic use. A single tap can run a Siri Shortcut or, over Bluetooth, trigger one nearby SwitchBot device with no hub. You only need a SwitchBot Hub Mini, Hub 2, or Hub 3, plus Wi-Fi, when you want one tap to run a full multi-device Scene.

Who installs it? Do I need an electrician?
Chevron down icon
Nobody needs to install it and there is no electrician. You peel the backing, press the tag onto a clean flat surface, then set the action in the SwitchBot app or iOS Shortcuts. The whole thing takes a couple of minutes. Our team can set it up if you prefer.

Does it work with Apple Home, Google Home, or Alexa?
Chevron down icon
It works through the SwitchBot app and, on iPhone, through Siri Shortcuts. It is not a HomeKit, Google, or Alexa accessory by itself. On an iPhone a Shortcut can chain other actions, but there is no direct Alexa or Google link built into the tag.

I have an iPhone. Which models work?
Chevron down icon
You need an iPhone XR or newer running iOS 13 or later, because those support background NFC tag reading and Siri Shortcuts. Older iPhones can read tags only inside certain apps, so the tap-to-run experience will not be as smooth or automatic.

Does it work with Android phones?
Chevron down icon
Yes, any Android phone with NFC running Android 5.0 or later can read the tag. Turn on NFC in settings, then tap the top back of the phone against the tag. Some very cheap Android models sold here ship without an NFC chip, so check yours first.

Will the heat in a parked Dubai car damage it?
Chevron down icon
The tag has no battery and a waterproof, corrosion-resistant ABS body, so it handles heat far better than any powered gadget. A tag stuck in a car for a tap-to-open-maps shortcut should survive summer. Years of direct sun may fade the adhesive, so press it somewhere shaded if you can.

This is not a lock, so why do people ask about fingerprints and heat?
Chevron down icon
Because the tag is often bought alongside a SwitchBot Lock. The tag itself has no fingerprint or face reader. It just sends a tap command. If you want fingerprint entry, that comes from the lock hardware, not this sticker. The tag simply gives you a tap-to-unlock option.

What about battery life and power cuts?
Chevron down icon
There is no battery and no power at all. The tag draws a tiny bit of energy from your phone only during the tap, so it never runs flat. A DEWA power cut does not affect the tag itself. Whatever device it triggers has its own power or battery.

Is there a mechanical key or backup if my phone dies?
Chevron down icon
The tag has no keyhole. If your phone is dead or lost, you cannot tap. Any backup, like a physical key or a keypad code, comes from the actual lock or device, not this tag. Always keep a normal way in that does not depend on your phone.

Can I give guests, staff, or a cleaner access with it?
Chevron down icon
Not directly. The action runs from your phone's setup, so a tag only works for phones you have programmed. It does not create guest logins or keep entry logs. For shared or logged access, use a SwitchBot Lock with keypad codes and manage users in the app instead.

Can it be hacked or copied?
Chevron down icon
Someone would need physical access to your tag and a phone held against it to read what is stored, which for most people is just a shortcut trigger, not a password. You can also lock the NTAG216 chip so its data cannot be changed. Keep sensitive tags out of public reach.

Can more than one person use the same tag?
Chevron down icon
Yes. Each person sets up their own phone to react to the tag. The tag just holds a small instruction. Anyone in the family can program their phone to run their own action from the same sticker, or you can use more tags since the box has three.

Does it work offline with no internet?
Chevron down icon
A Siri Shortcut or a direct Bluetooth trigger to one nearby SwitchBot device works offline, since your phone talks to the device directly. Only cloud Scenes that run through a SwitchBot Hub need the internet. So basic taps keep working even if your home Wi-Fi is down.

What exactly is in the box?
Chevron down icon
You get three round white NFC tags plus six blank identification stickers to label each tag, so you can mark which is which for door, bedroom, or car. There is no battery, charger, or cable, because the tag needs none. That is the full genuine 3-pack.

What is the warranty and can I get support in the UAE?
Chevron down icon
It carries a 1-year manufacturer warranty. Buy the genuine pack from us and you deal with a local team for setup help and any warranty issue, instead of chasing an overseas import seller. Keep your invoice, as it is your proof of purchase for any claim.

How much is it and how do I buy from you?
Chevron down icon
The genuine 3-pack is very cheap, starting around AED 22, which is about AED 7 per tag. Just contact us and we will supply it, and we can bundle it with a SwitchBot Lock or Hub and set everything up in one visit.

Is the single-tag listing the same thing as the 3-pack?
Chevron down icon
Be careful. The best value is the genuine 3-pack. An import listing can cost around AED 43 for the same pack, and a single tag from another reseller can be about AED 60. Per tag, those options cost you much more than the first-party 3-pack.

How does it compare to a SwitchBot Lock keypad or the app?
Chevron down icon
The tag is the cheapest, simplest trigger. A keypad lets guests type a code with no phone. The app lets you control things from anywhere. The tag suits a fast, fixed action at one spot, like tap the wall by the door to lock up. Many people use all three together.

Who should not buy this?
Chevron down icon
Skip it if you do not already own SwitchBot devices or an NFC phone, since the tag does nothing on its own. It is not a lock, hub, or sensor. First-time smart-home buyers should start with a SwitchBot Lock or Hub, then add tags later as handy tap shortcuts.
