Overview

What it is and where it fits

The SwitchBot Bot is a small robotic "finger" that sits next to your existing switch or button and presses it for you. It sticks on with the included 3M tape and does not touch the wiring behind your wall. That makes it a good fit for renters, since nothing is drilled, cut, or changed permanently. When you move out, you peel it off. It works in two ways. Switch Mode flips a normal rocker light switch on or off. Press Mode pushes a button once, which suits a coffee machine, a doorbell, a PC power button, or a garage door button. You set the mode in the free SwitchBot app. Out of the box the Bot talks to your phone over Bluetooth, so control works when you are near it, roughly one room away. To control it from work, use your voice, or add it to Apple Home, Google Home, or Alexa, you need a separate SwitchBot Hub that bridges it to your Wi-Fi. The Bot itself has no Wi-Fi. It runs on one CR2 battery that lasts up to about 600 days at twice-daily use, and the battery is included. Two arm extenders help it reach recessed or stiff switches common in older Dubai buildings. Honest limits: it is a switch pusher, not a smart lock, and it is not water resistant. For a hard rocker or a very small button, test the fit first. Sold in black and white with a one-year warranty.

  • No wiring and no drilling. It sticks on with tape and peels off clean, so tenants can use it too.
  • Two modes: flip a wall light switch, or press a button like a coffee machine or PC power.
  • One CR2 battery lasts up to 600 days, so you are not charging it every week.
  • Add a SwitchBot Hub for Wi-Fi remote control and voice with Alexa, Google, or Apple Home.

In Dubai homes

What to check before you order

Most Dubai homes run on 220 to 240V Type-G sockets, but that does not matter here because the Bot never touches mains power. It runs on its own battery and presses the switch mechanically, so it works the same in a Downtown apartment or a villa in Al Barsha. For renters this is the main appeal. Around seven in ten Dubai residents rent, and landlords usually say no to rewiring. The Bot changes nothing permanent, so you rarely need permission, and you take it with you when the lease ends. Two heat notes. Keep it out of direct sun on a west-facing wall, since constant summer heat is hard on any adhesive and battery. The 3M tape holds better on a clean, cool, dry surface. Remote control needs Wi-Fi through a SwitchBot Hub, so make sure your router reaches that switch, especially near a villa gate or a far majlis. We supply and support both the Bot and the Hub locally, with the one-year warranty.

Questions about the SwitchBot Bot (S1)

What exactly is the SwitchBot Bot?
Chevron down icon
It is a small battery robot that presses a switch or button for you. It sticks beside your existing wall switch and pushes it on your schedule or command. It does not replace the switch or touch any wiring, so it is a simple way to make a normal switch smart.

Will it fit the light switches in my Dubai apartment or villa?
Chevron down icon
It fits most standard rocker switches and single push buttons used in UAE homes. Very stiff switches, wide double rockers, or tiny recessed buttons can be tricky. The two included arm extenders help with awkward ones. If you are unsure, send us a photo of your switch and we will check the fit.

Can a tenant use it, and will my landlord allow it?
Chevron down icon
Yes, this is one of the best options for renters. It sticks on with tape and changes nothing permanent, so most landlords have no reason to object. You do not drill or rewire. When your lease ends, peel it off, clean any residue, and take it to your next home.

Who installs it, and is it hard to set up?
Chevron down icon
You can do it yourself in a few minutes. Clean the wall, peel the tape, stick the Bot beside the switch, then pair it in the SwitchBot app and pick Switch or Press mode. No tools or electrician needed. If you prefer, our team can fit and set it up for you.

Does it need Wi-Fi or a hub?
Chevron down icon
Not to start. On its own, the Bot connects to your phone over Bluetooth, so you can control it when you are nearby. For control from outside the home, voice commands, or app scenes with other brands, you add a SwitchBot Hub that links it to your Wi-Fi. The Bot has no Wi-Fi built in.

Does it work with Apple Home, Google Home, and Alexa?
Chevron down icon
Yes, but through a SwitchBot Hub. With the Hub, the Bot works with Amazon Alexa, Google Assistant, Siri Shortcuts, and SmartThings. For Apple Home, you need Hub 2, which adds it over Matter. Without a Hub you are limited to Bluetooth control from the SwitchBot app.

Does it have a fingerprint or face reader?
Chevron down icon
No. The Bot is a switch pusher, not a lock, so there is no fingerprint or face scanner on it. That also means the UAE summer heat does not cause the finger-scan problems you get on some door locks. You control it by app, by schedule, or by voice with a Hub.

Will the sticky pad and battery survive Dubai heat?
Chevron down icon
On an indoor wall away from direct sun, yes. Air-conditioned rooms are fine. Trouble comes on a hot west-facing wall in full afternoon sun, where any adhesive can soften over time. Stick it on a clean, cool, dry surface, and keep the CR2 battery out of constant baking heat for best life.

How long does the battery last, and what happens in a power cut?
Chevron down icon
One CR2 battery lasts up to about 600 days at twice-daily use. Because the Bot runs on its own battery, a DEWA power cut does not stop it working, though the switch it presses obviously needs mains power to turn a light on. The app warns you when the battery runs low.

Can I still use the switch by hand?
Chevron down icon
Yes. The Bot sits to one side and presses the switch, so you can always flip it yourself as normal. Nothing is locked or blocked. If the battery dies or you remove the Bot, the switch keeps working exactly as it did before.

Can my family, maid, or cleaner use it too?
Chevron down icon
Yes. You can share access in the SwitchBot app so family members control the same Bot from their own phones. For a cleaner or helper who should only turn a light on or off, Bluetooth control near the switch, or a simple voice command through a Hub, usually does the job.

Is there a log of when it was used?
Chevron down icon
The SwitchBot app keeps a basic activity history, so you can see recent presses and scheduled runs. It is not a full audit trail like a door lock, since this is a switch helper. For most homes, the history plus scheduled routines is enough to know what happened.

Is it secure, and can it be hacked?
Chevron down icon
Risk is low. Local control uses encrypted Bluetooth, and the Bot only presses a switch, so the worst case is a light turning on or off. It holds no card data or door keys. Keep your phone and SwitchBot account protected with a strong password and, where offered, two-factor login.

Can more than one person control it from the app?
Chevron down icon
Yes. Add the Bot to your SwitchBot account, then invite others so several phones can control it. This suits couples and families sharing one home. With a Hub linked to Alexa or Google, anyone in the house can also use a voice command without opening the app.

Does it work without internet?
Chevron down icon
Yes, for nearby control. Bluetooth works phone-to-Bot with no internet at all, and saved schedules keep running. You only need the internet, through a Hub, for remote access when you are away or for voice assistants. So a home Wi-Fi outage does not stop local pressing.

What comes in the box?
Chevron down icon
You get the SwitchBot Bot with the CR2 battery already fitted, two Add-on arm extenders for tricky switches, a spare piece of adhesive tape, and a user manual. That is everything you need to stick it on and start using it. A Hub is a separate purchase.

What warranty and support do I get in the UAE?
Chevron down icon
It comes with a one-year manufacturer warranty. Buy from us and you deal with a local team for setup help, fit advice, and any warranty claim, so you are not shipping units abroad or waiting on overseas support. We can also supply the matching Hub and help you connect everything.

How much is it, and how do I buy from you?
Chevron down icon
The Bot starts around 93 AED, which makes it one of the cheapest ways to automate a switch. Prices move with stock and colour. Message us for today's price, to add a Hub, or for a bundle across several switches, and we will sort delivery and setup across Dubai.

How does it compare to a smart relay like the Shelly 1?
Chevron down icon
A Shelly relay wires in behind the switch and gives full smart control with no visible gadget, but it needs an electrician and landlord approval. The Bot sticks on top with zero wiring. Renters usually prefer the Bot. Owners who want a clean, permanent setup often choose a relay instead.

How is it different from an Aqara switch module?
Chevron down icon
The Aqara single switch module hides inside the wall box and rewires the switch, so it is permanent and needs an electrician. The Bot does none of that. It just presses the button from outside. Choose Aqara for a built-in look you own, choose the Bot for a quick, movable, tenant-friendly option.

Can I use it on a coffee machine, PC, or gate button?
Chevron down icon
Yes, that is what Press Mode is for. It can push a single button such as a coffee machine start, a PC power button, a doorbell, or a garage or gate button, as long as the button is a normal press type and the Bot can reach it with the arm extenders.

Can I schedule it, like lights on at sunset?
Chevron down icon
Yes. In the app you can set timers and schedules, so a light switches on every evening or off at bedtime. With a Hub you can also trigger it by voice or link it into scenes with other smart devices. Schedules run locally once set, even without internet.

Is it waterproof or safe for a bathroom or outdoors?
Chevron down icon
No, it is not water resistant. Keep it indoors and away from splashes, steam, and rain. A humid bathroom or an outdoor gate exposed to summer weather is not a good spot. For those places, ask us about a properly rated wired option instead.

Who should not buy the SwitchBot Bot?
Chevron down icon
Skip it if you want a door lock, a waterproof outdoor device, or a hidden built-in switch with no gadget on the wall. It also struggles with very stiff or oddly shaped switches. If you own your home and want a permanent clean install, a wired relay or in-wall module suits you better.
