Overview

What it is and where it fits

Read this one as a solar phone charger, not a small version of the bigger panels. The outputs are USB-A and USB-C, so it charges devices directly and does not connect to a power station's solar input at all. That distinction catches people out: the Anker SOLIX C300's own listing states it will not charge from the PS30, because the panel speaks USB rather than the DC voltage a station expects. What it does well is sit on a backpack. It folds to roughly 90cm by 27cm, weighs about a kilogram, and carries eyelets and a carabiner point so it can hang off a bag and generate while you walk. 30W in full sun is enough to run a phone up from empty in a couple of hours, or keep two devices ticking over, which for a hiker or a day out on the water is the entire requirement. IP65 sealing covers dust and rain. Monocrystalline cells behind an aluminium and tempered glass construction give it more rigidity than a fabric-backed panel of this size. If the aim is refilling a power station, the PS400 is the product; this is for keeping a phone alive away from the car.

  • Charges two devices at once over USB-A and USB-C
  • Hangs off a backpack and generates while you walk
  • One kilogram, so it travels with a day pack
  • IP65 sealing against dust and rain

What to check before you order

Sold on amazon.ae but shipped from outside the UAE, so delivery runs to a week or more rather than next day. Order ahead of a trip rather than the night before. In UAE sun the 30W rating is realistic for longer than it would be in a cooler climate, because the limiting factor here is rarely light, but heat still costs output and a panel resting on hot sand loses more than one propped against a bag. The important thing to be clear about before buying is what it does not do: this will not charge a power station. Its USB outputs are for phones, tablets, cameras, headlamps and battery banks. If the plan is to keep a station topped up on a desert weekend, the PS400 is the panel that does that job, and this one will disappoint.

Questions about the Anker SOLIX PS30 Solar Panel

Can it charge my power station?
Chevron down icon
No. The PS30 outputs USB power, and a power station's solar input expects a higher DC voltage through a DC or MC4 connector. Anker's own C300 listing says explicitly that the C300 is not compatible with the PS30. For station charging, look at the PS400 or a 100W-class DC panel.

What can 30W realistically keep going?
Chevron down icon
A phone charges from empty in roughly two hours of direct sun. Across a day it will comfortably cover two phones and a headlamp, or a phone and a camera battery. It will not keep a laptop running, and a tablet charges slowly enough that you would rather leave it plugged in overnight.
