This is the sensor that makes automated lighting genuinely usable, because it detects a stationary person rather than movement. A millimetre wave radar reads breathing and micro-movement, so someone reading on a sofa or working at a desk still registers as present and the lights do not drop out. Anyone who has lived with PIR-triggered lighting and given up on it should start here. The FP1E covers a room-sized area, roughly six metres in front of it across a wide arc, and reports a simple present or absent state. It runs on USB-C mains power rather than a battery, because radar cannot be run continuously off a coin cell, so it needs a socket or a USB supply within reach of the mounting point. It is a Zigbee device and requires an Aqara hub. Compared with the FP2 it does one zone rather than many, and that is the whole difference: if you want the room split into a desk area and a seating area with separate automations, buy the FP2. If you want one honest answer to whether anyone is in the room, the FP1E does it for a third less and sets up in a few minutes.

Guests sit for long stretches with very little movement, and a PIR sensor will darken the room on them repeatedly. The FP1E solves that properly. It needs continuous power, so plan a USB supply during first fix or accept a visible cable, which in a finished villa usually means mounting near an existing socket at high level rather than in the theoretically ideal corner. Radar passes through thin partitions, so on a gypsum stud wall it can pick up someone in the next room. Aim it into the space and away from the shared wall, and keep it off walls backing onto a corridor.
