Entry is by finger vein in about 0.6 seconds, PIN, NFC card, Bluetooth, the app or the mechanical key. Finger vein reads the vessel pattern inside your finger instead of the ridges on the surface, so it keeps working on hands a normal fingerprint lock refuses. The bolt is motorised, so the door locks itself as it shuts and opens without you turning a handle. Two power sources sit behind it, eight AA cells for the lock and a rechargeable pack for the camera, so a flat camera battery never leaves you standing outside. It joins Mi Home and Apple Home, which is rare at this money. Now the catch. The noon seller states no warranty with the lock, and Lockin has no service counter in Dubai, so a failure after the return window is your problem. Colour and handle style also vary between builds of this model. We check all of that before ordering, and we fit it, but go in with your eyes open.

Fitment is easier here than with the American style locks. The S50M Pro takes a timber or steel door from 40mm to 120mm thick, which covers most Dubai villa and apartment entrances. What it does not do is reuse your euro cylinder. It brings its own mortise body and Class C cylinder, so the door pocket usually has to be routed to suit, and that is a job for us rather than a handyman. Fire rated apartment doors need building approval before anything is cut, and a tenant needs the landlord to agree in writing. On the app side, check the Mi Home region at handover. Some builds of this lock pair only to the China server, which leaves parts of the app in Chinese, and that is worth knowing before the box is opened rather than after. Heat is handled well, since the electronics sit in a metal panel on a shaded internal landing in most towers, but a villa door in full sun will use the camera battery faster.
