Overview

What it is and where it fits

The Philips DDL615-5HBS is the entry lock in the Philips EasyKey range: a slim lever handle lock that opens by fingerprint, PIN, key tag or key, and sets up over Bluetooth. It suits an apartment entrance off an indoor corridor, a home office, a study or a maid's room, for buyers who want a known name on a simple keyless lock at around AED 750. It has no camera and no Wi-Fi. Shenzhen Conex Intelligent Technology makes it under a Philips licence. You grip the handle, your finger lands on the sensor underneath, and pressing down opens the door. When locked, the outside handle swings freely, so forcing it down does not strain the mortise. The panel is only 56 mm wide, which helps on narrow door stiles. The Home Access app talks to the lock by Bluetooth when you stand near it. From anywhere, you can still create offline guest PINs that the lock accepts without being online. You cannot unlock remotely, get live alerts or link it to Alexa, Google or Apple Home. It runs on four AAA batteries that Philips rates at about six months, with USB-C emergency power. Fit depends on the mortise body, which differs between Philips UAE and global specs, so we confirm it before ordering. Skip it for a sun-facing villa front door, or if you want remote access and auto-locking.

  • Grip the handle and your fingerprint opens the door in about half a second
  • Slim 56 mm panel suits narrow door stiles and interior doors
  • Send guests offline PINs from anywhere, with no Wi-Fi or hub at the door
  • Runs on ordinary AAA batteries with a USB-C backup if they run flat

What to check before you order

The DDL615 is a lever lock, not a push-pull, and the mortise body decides the fit. Philips UAE lists a 5572 mortise, the 55 mm backset and 72 mm handle-to-cylinder layout common on European-style timber doors in Dubai. Conex's global spec lists 5050, 3585 and 4585 narrow profile mortises instead. We confirm which body is in the box and measure your door before ordering. Doors from 35 to 90 mm thick are covered, in any handing. It is rated from -20°C to 60°C, but Philips gives no water or dust rating, so we keep it to doors under cover. Good spots are apartment entrance doors off an air-conditioned corridor, home offices, maid's rooms and storerooms. Fire-rated tower doors still need building management approval, and tenants need landlord consent. Spare AAA batteries are easy to find in any supermarket.

Philips EasyKey in the UAE. Philips-branded digital door locks produced under brand licence rather than by Philips lighting or electronics. Sharaf DG sells entry models directly, while the camera and palm-vein flagships reach the UAE through third-party sellers, so we source those to order. Lock body sizes differ by region, so we confirm the mortise body against your door before ordering.

Questions about the Philips EasyKey DDL615-5HBS Fingerprint Lever Smart Lock

What is the Philips EasyKey DDL615-5HBS?
Chevron down icon
It is the entry model in the Philips EasyKey smart lock range, a lever handle lock with a fingerprint sensor under the handle, a PIN keypad, key tags and a backup key. It connects to the Home Access app by Bluetooth and runs on four AAA batteries.

How much does the Philips DDL615 cost in the UAE?
Chevron down icon
It was AED 750 at both Sharaf DG and Amazon.ae at our last check, in stock at each. Sharaf DG sells it directly and lists a one-year warranty. Installation is extra, and the price can move with promotions.

Does the DDL615 have Wi-Fi?
Chevron down icon
No. Philips and Conex both list Bluetooth as the only connection, even though one Amazon listing says Wi-Fi. That means the app works when your phone is near the door, and there is no live connection to the lock when you are away from home.

Can I unlock the DDL615 from my phone when I am away?
Chevron down icon
No. Without Wi-Fi there is no remote unlocking and no live notifications. What you can do from anywhere is create offline access PINs in the app and send them to a visitor. The lock checks the code itself when it is typed in.

How do the offline guest PINs work?
Chevron down icon
The app generates codes the lock can verify without an internet link. You can make one-time codes valid for six hours, recurring codes for set times each week, or codes that expire after a set period. The lock stores up to 250 of them.

Who actually makes the Philips DDL615?
Chevron down icon
Shenzhen Conex Intelligent Technology Co., Ltd. makes and warrants Philips EasyKey locks under a licence to use the Philips brand. Philips does not manufacture locks itself. Conex lists the DDL615-5HBS on its own website with the same specifications.

Will the DDL615 fit my door?
Chevron down icon
It fits timber and steel doors from 35 to 90 mm thick in any handing. The mortise is the question. Philips UAE lists a 5572 European layout while Conex lists narrower profile mortises, so we check which body ships and measure your door before you buy.

Is the DDL615 a good choice for a villa main door?
Chevron down icon
Only if the door sits under a porch or canopy. Philips gives no water or dust rating, and it has no camera, Wi-Fi or auto-locking deadbolt. For an exposed villa front door, the Philips DDL702-FVP or a Yale YDM4109A is a better match.

Can I fit it on my apartment door in a tower?
Chevron down icon
Technically it suits many apartment doors because the panel is slim, but most tower entrance doors are fire-rated. Building management usually has to approve any lock change that cuts or drills the door. Get their written approval before we install it.

Can a tenant install the DDL615?
Chevron down icon
Only with the landlord's written consent, because it replaces the existing lockset and may need new holes. If the mortise matches the old one, the original lock can often go back at move-out. A renter who cannot touch the door should choose a retrofit lock instead.

Does the DDL615 lock automatically?
Chevron down icon
No. Philips lists it in manual mode only, so there is no motor that throws a deadbolt after you leave. The latch holds the door shut and you lock it yourself. If automatic locking matters, look at the Philips DDL702-FVP or DDL902.

What batteries does it use and how long do they last?
Chevron down icon
It takes four AAA alkaline batteries, and Philips quotes about six months from internal testing. Heavy daily use shortens that. AAA batteries are cheap and sold everywhere in the UAE, which is simpler than a rechargeable pack for a staff room or office door.

What happens when the batteries run out?
Chevron down icon
The 0 key lights up red when the voltage drops, which gives you time to swap them. If they die completely, plug a 5V power bank into the USB-C port on the outside to wake the lock, or use the mechanical key.

How does it handle Dubai heat?
Chevron down icon
Conex rates it from -20°C to 60°C. That is fine indoors and on shaded doors. Philips publishes no water or dust rating, so we do not fit it on doors that take direct sun, sand-laden wind or rain, such as an open villa entrance.

Do I need a hub or subscription for the DDL615?
Chevron down icon
No hub and no subscription. Everything is set up through the free Home Access app over Bluetooth. We found no confirmed Philips gateway for this model, so plan on it staying a Bluetooth lock for its whole life.

What can I do in the Home Access app?
Chevron down icon
You can add or delete fingerprints, PINs and key tags, adjust the volume, turn on electronic lockout, create offline guest PINs, and read unlock records, doorbell logs and alert history. Records sync when your phone next connects to the lock by Bluetooth.

Does it work with Apple Home, Alexa or Google Home?
Chevron down icon
No. It is a Bluetooth lock that only works with the Home Access app, with no Matter, Apple Home, Alexa or Google Home support. If voice control matters, the Aqara U300 is a better fit at a slightly higher price.

What happens during a DEWA power cut or internet outage?
Chevron down icon
Nothing changes. The lock runs on its own AAA batteries and never relied on your Wi-Fi, so fingerprint, PIN, key tag, offline guest codes and the key all keep working as normal.

How fast and accurate is the fingerprint sensor?
Chevron down icon
Conex specifies recognition in 0.5 seconds or less, a false rejection rate of 0.01% or less and a false acceptance rate of 0.0001% or less. In practice the sensor sits where your finger rests as you grip the handle, so opening feels like one movement.

Is the DDL615 secure enough?
Chevron down icon
For interior and covered doors, yes. It has a C-grade cylinder, a free-swing outside handle that resists being forced down, a hidden PIN feature allowing up to 20 digits, dual verification and an anti-dismantling alarm. It does not send alerts to your phone because it is not online.

Is it good for maids, drivers and cleaners?
Chevron down icon
Yes. Give live-in staff their own fingerprint or key tag, and give a weekly cleaner a recurring PIN that only works on set days. You can delete any user in the app when staff change, without collecting keys.

How does the DDL615 compare with the Philips DDL702-FVP?
Chevron down icon
They are very different locks. The DDL615 is a basic Bluetooth fingerprint lever lock at around AED 750. The DDL702-FVP is a Wi-Fi push-pull lock with 3D face unlock, a video door viewer and an automatic deadbolt, at more than four times the price.

How long does installation take, and do you fit it?
Chevron down icon
Yes, we fit it. If the new mortise matches your door, it takes about an hour to an hour and a half. If the door needs re-routing for a different mortise, allow longer. We enrol fingerprints and set up the app before we leave.

What warranty does it have in the UAE?
Chevron down icon
Sharaf DG lists a one-year warranty on the DDL615 it sells. The underlying warranty comes from Shenzhen Conex, the Philips licensee, so keep your invoice. If we supply and fit it, we handle any fault with the retailer for you.

Who should not buy the Philips DDL615?
Chevron down icon
Anyone who wants to unlock remotely, get phone alerts, see a camera or have the door lock itself. It is also wrong for exposed outdoor doors. For those needs, spend more on a Wi-Fi lock such as the Philips DDL702-FVP.

What maintenance does the DDL615 need?
Chevron down icon
Change the AAA batteries when the red warning shows, and wipe the fingerprint sensor with a soft dry cloth now and then so dust does not slow reads. Once a year, check the handle screws and that the latch lines up with the strike plate.
