Overview

What it is and where it fits

This is not a mains switch, and that is the point. The Wireless Remote Switch H1 is a battery powered scene controller with two rockers that sits on a surface, sticks to a wall with the included pad, or screws onto an existing wall box. Nothing is wired. Nothing is cut into the plaster. It sends a Zigbee command to an Aqara hub, and the hub does the work, so an Aqara Zigbee hub is required and you need one for Apple Home as well. Buy it to put a light control where there is no cable: beside a bed, on a glass partition, at the far end of a majlis, or over the dead second box of an old two-way circuit. It is also the fix for a room where the only switch is behind the door. The two rockers give you seven configurable actions in multi-function mode, so one plate can pair a natural on and off, or run four scenes and a night mode. The limits are honest ones. It controls smart devices and scenes only, never the circuit behind it, so the lights themselves must already be smart. There is no backlight, so in a dark majlis you are feeling for a button. It runs on a CR2450 coin cell that eventually needs replacing.

  • Adds wall control with no wiring, so a tenant needs no landlord approval
  • Puts a light switch where there is no cable, such as beside a bed or on a glass partition
  • Seven separate actions across two rockers, enough for a natural on and off plus scenes
  • Runs five years on one coin cell and lifts off the wall with no marks

What to check before you order

The wiring question that decides everything else in this category does not apply here, which is why it earns a place in a Dubai flat. In an older apartment with no neutral at the switch box, where no mains smart switch can be fitted at all, this button plus smart bulbs or a module gives real wall control and leaves the electrical installation untouched, which keeps a tenancy agreement barring alterations intact. The plate is 85.8 x 86 x 12.5 mm, so it is an 86 x 86 mm square that covers the British pattern back box used across the UAE. Aqara supports screwing it onto an existing box, but have the fixing centres of your box checked on site before you plan on that, because box screw pitch in older buildings is not always consistent. In villas we use it as a bedside control in master bedrooms where the only switch is by the door, and at the far end of a majlis where there is no second switch. Keep it indoors in air conditioned space. Aqara rates it to 50 C, and a balcony, car porch or store room in July will pass that. It needs no mains power, so it keeps working through a DEWA cut, but the hub and the lights it commands will not, so nothing happens until power returns.

Aqara in the UAE. Sold through several authorised UAE resellers rather than one exclusive distributor. Wide local stock and the broadest single-hub ecosystem available in UAE retail.

Questions about the Aqara Wireless Remote Switch H1 (Double Rocker)

What is the Aqara Wireless Remote Switch H1 (Double Rocker)?
Chevron down icon
It is a battery powered Zigbee scene controller with two rockers, model WRS-R02. It has no mains connection and switches no circuit of its own. Pressing a rocker sends a command to an Aqara hub, and the hub then runs whatever scene or device you assigned to that press.

Is this a smart wall switch?
Chevron down icon
No, and this is the most common mistake buyers make with it. A smart wall switch replaces your existing plate and cuts the power to a light circuit. This one is a wireless button that looks like a wall switch and controls devices that are already smart. If you want to make an ordinary bulb on an ordinary switch controllable, you need a wired switch or an in-wall module instead.

What does the Aqara Wireless Remote Switch H1 cost in the UAE?
Chevron down icon
On 23 September 2026 it was AED 120 on Amazon.ae, sold by Kendom and fulfilled by Amazon, with only four units left in stock. Noon listed the same double rocker at AED 155. An Aqara hub is not included in either price.

Where can I buy it in Dubai?
Chevron down icon
Amazon.ae had the lowest genuine listing when we checked, at AED 120 with next day delivery in Dubai. Noon carries it too, for more. Stock on the Amazon listing was down to four units, so the price can move quickly once those go. It can also be supplied, and we configure it as part of a lighting installation.

Does it need a hub?
Chevron down icon
Yes. An Aqara Zigbee 3.0 hub is required, with no exceptions. The button has no Wi-Fi and no Bluetooth link to your phone, so without a hub in the property it does nothing at all. Budget for the hub before you buy the button, because it usually costs more than the button does.

Which Aqara hubs work with it?
Chevron down icon
Any current Aqara Zigbee 3.0 hub will run it. The Amazon listing names the Hub M2, M1S and Camera Hub G2H, and newer models such as the Hub M3 and the E1 dongle also carry a Zigbee 3.0 radio. If you already run Aqara sensors or switches at home, the hub you have will almost certainly take this button too.

Does it work with Apple Home?
Chevron down icon
Yes, through an Aqara hub. The hub is what appears in Apple Home, and the button shows up as a programmable switch you can attach Home automations to. You cannot add it to Apple Home on its own, so the hub is a requirement for HomeKit users just as it is for everyone else.

Does it work with Alexa or Google Home?
Chevron down icon
Aqara documents Apple HomeKit, the Aqara Home app and IFTTT for this switch, and does not list Alexa or Google Assistant for it. The practical route on those platforms is to have the button run an Aqara scene, and to let the scene control devices that Alexa or Google already sees. Check your own hub's integration before you rely on it.

What battery does it take and how long does it last?
Chevron down icon
It runs on a single CR2450 coin cell, which Aqara confirms on the product specification page. Aqara quotes a five year battery life, because the button draws current only at the moment of a press. The cell is a common size sold in any supermarket or pharmacy in Dubai, and the Aqara app warns you before it goes flat.

How many actions can I program?
Chevron down icon
Seven, in multi-function mode: single press, double press and long press on each of the two rockers, plus pressing both rockers together. There is also a high-speed click mode that drops to single press only and responds in 50 milliseconds, which is the one to pick when the button is your everyday light control rather than a scene pad.

How do I mount it?
Chevron down icon
Three ways. You can stand it on a table or shelf with no fixing at all, stick it to a wall with the adhesive pad in the box, or screw it onto an existing wall box using the back plate. The adhesive route is the one most tenants use, because it comes off at the end of a tenancy without marking the paint.

Will it fit over a standard UAE back box?
Chevron down icon
The plate measures 85.8 x 86 x 12.5 mm, which is the 86 x 86 mm square used across the UAE, so it covers a standard British pattern back box. Screwing it down depends on the fixing centres in your particular box, which vary in older buildings, so have that checked before you plan to mount it that way. Sticking it to the wall sidesteps the question entirely.

Is it suitable for a rented apartment?
Chevron down icon
Yes, and it is one of the few controls in this category that genuinely is. Nothing is wired, nothing is drilled if you use the adhesive pad, and no landlord approval or NOC is needed because the electrical installation is not touched. It comes off the wall on the day you move out and goes in the box with everything else.

Does it need a neutral wire?
Chevron down icon
No. It needs no wire of any kind, which is exactly why it works in older Dubai apartments where the switch box has only a live and a switched live. If the lack of a neutral has ruled out every mains smart switch in your flat, this button paired with smart bulbs is a complete route to wall control.

What happens in a DEWA power cut?
Chevron down icon
The button itself keeps working, because it runs on a coin cell. Nothing it commands will respond, though, since the hub and the lights lose power at the same time. When the supply returns, the hub reboots and the button works again with no intervention from you.

What happens if the internet drops?
Chevron down icon
Aqara hubs store their automations locally, so a button press that controls a device on the same hub normally keeps working with the router offline. What stops is remote control from outside the home, voice assistants and anything routed through a cloud service such as IFTTT. Keep the automations you care about on the hub rather than in the cloud.

Can it cope with Dubai heat?
Chevron down icon
Indoors, yes. Aqara rates it from minus 10 to 50 C at 0 to 95% relative humidity with no condensation. A balcony, car porch, garage or unconditioned store room in a Dubai summer will exceed that, and a coin cell in direct sun is a bad idea anyway, so keep it in air conditioned space.

What is the wireless range?
Chevron down icon
It is a Zigbee 3.0 device, so it talks to the hub rather than to your router and its range is whatever your Zigbee mesh reaches. A battery button cannot repeat the mesh itself. In a villa, mains powered Aqara switches, plugs or modules act as repeaters and are what carries the signal across concrete floors to a distant hub.

How is it different from the Aqara Wireless Mini Switch T1?
Chevron down icon
The Mini Switch T1 is a single round button with three actions, and it suits a bedside table or the inside of a wardrobe door. This H1 is a two rocker plate the size of a wall switch with seven actions. The extra rocker buys you two things: a natural on and off pairing that anyone in the house understands without being taught, and more scenes from one position. If it is going on a wall where people expect a light switch, buy the H1.

Should I buy this or a wired Aqara switch instead?
Chevron down icon
Buy a wired switch, such as the Aqara H2 or the Smart Wall Switch D1, when the light itself needs to become smart and your box has a neutral. Buy this wireless one when the light is already smart, or when you cannot touch the wiring. Older Dubai flats often have no neutral at the switch box, which rules out most wired options, and in that case the honest answer is smart bulbs plus this button.

Can I use it to make a two-way switch without new cable?
Chevron down icon
Yes, and this is one of its best uses in a villa. Aqara supports a two-way setup pairing this remote with a Smart Wall Switch H1 EU, so the wired switch does the actual switching and this one controls the same light from a second position. No cable is pulled between the two points, which avoids chasing a wall.

Is there a subscription?
Chevron down icon
No. The Aqara Home app, hub automations and Apple Home integration are all free to use. The only ongoing cost is a CR2450 coin cell every few years, which is a few dirhams.

What about warranty in the UAE?
Chevron down icon
The Amazon.ae listing is sold by the marketplace seller Kendom rather than by Aqara directly, so a warranty claim would go through that seller. Keep the invoice. Amazon also offers paid extended warranty add-ons on the listing, which are separate from any manufacturer cover.

Who should not buy it?
Chevron down icon
Skip it if you have no Aqara hub and no intention of buying one, because without a hub it is inert. Skip it too if your lights are ordinary bulbs on ordinary switches and you are not making them smart first, since the button controls devices and scenes rather than a circuit. It has no backlight either, so if you want something you can find in a fully dark majlis, look elsewhere.
