A wired, dealer commissioned lighting and shading control system for large Dubai villas, designed and programmed by a certified Lutron integrator rather than bought off a shelf.
Lutron HomeWorks QSX is a wired, dealer commissioned control system for lighting, shading and scenes across a whole villa. You do not buy it off a shelf. It is designed on drawings, wired into panels, then programmed and handed over by a certified Lutron dealer. The brain is an HQP7 processor, a DIN rail board that sits in a Lutron enclosure in a plant room or comms cupboard. It talks to keypads, dimming modules and shade drives over Lutron's QS wired link (RS-485), which carries up to 99 devices and 512 switch legs per link, and over Clear Connect Type A wireless where cable cannot reach. Two Ethernet ports connect it to the HomeWorks Designer software, to other processors, and to AV, security or Ketra lighting. A working system needs more than the processor. Add the QSPS-DH-1 power supply, an equipment panel, a wired network for programming, and Lutron International keypads (seeTouch International, Alisse or Palladiom) with dimming or shading hardware sized to your circuits. Day to day, the family presses keypads or opens the Lutron App for HomeWorks. This suits large Dubai villas, majlis wings and estate projects with hundreds of circuits and heavy shading, usually at new build or full renovation stage. The limits are plain. There is no DIY path and no consumer pairing app. Changes after handover need licensed Designer software and a certified programmer, so plan a support arrangement. It is the wrong buy for a rented flat or a small apartment, where an Aqara or Hue setup does the job for far less money.
Model HomeWorks QSX
| System / protocol | Lutron QS wired link (RS-485, Lutron's own protocol) plus Clear Connect Type A wireless, with dual RJ45 Ethernet for Designer software and third-party integration |
| Brain / processor required | HomeWorks QSX Processor, model HQP7-1 or HQP7-2, configured with Lutron Designer software v16.x or later. There is no consumer app pairing. |
| Power / voltage | Processor runs on 24 to 36V DC at 250 mA, fed by the QSPS-DH-1 DIN rail power supply. That supply's mains input is rated 120 to 240V AC on Lutron's own spec sheet and wiring diagram, so it is genuinely universal at the supply stage. |
| Mounting / form factor | DIN rail processor board inside a Lutron equipment enclosure (HQ-LV21, L-LV21, L-LV14 or a PDx control panel) in a plant room or comms closet. It is not a wall box or plug in device. |
| System capacity | Up to 99 QS wired devices and 512 switch legs per link, with two links on the HQP7-2. Scales to roughly 10,000 zones across up to 16 processors or gateways on one project. |
| User interface / keypads | Lutron International keypad range (seeTouch International, Alisse, Palladiom) plus the Lutron App for HomeWorks. No US Decora format hardware and no generic third-party keypads. |
| Installation route | Certified Lutron HomeWorks dealer and programmer only. Designed, wired and commissioned per project. Lutron states the system requires a qualified Lutron Pro Installer, with no DIY path. |
| Regulatory approvals | cULus Listed, CE Marked, UKCA Marked, FCC Part 15 / ICES-003 compliant and RoHS compliant. The hardware is certified for multiple regulatory regions, not a US only listing. |
Voltage first, because it matters. The processor board only ever sees 24 to 36V DC. What touches DEWA mains is the QSPS-DH-1 DIN rail power supply, and Lutron's own spec sheet rates that input at 120 to 240V AC, so it is genuinely correct for UAE 220 to 240V at 50Hz. Lutron also builds a separate International hardware line (seeTouch International, Alisse and Palladiom keypads) for 230V markets, so no US Decora parts go on your walls. Nothing plugs into a Type-G socket. The system is hard wired into panels at the board, and keypad back boxes, UK square or EU round, are set at first fix to match the keypad you approved. Mains work belongs to a licensed electrician, and the system is programmed by a certified Lutron dealer. In the UAE, Lutron supply runs through Taxan Gulf FZCO in Jebel Ali, with Dubai based certified integrators doing the install and commissioning.
Lutron in the UAE. The premium US lighting-control brand (Caseta). Available on Amazon.ae, some SKUs ship from outside the UAE; wiring and faceplates differ from UK/UAE standard, so we confirm fit.
