Ask what an automatic gate costs in Dubai and most answers quote the motor alone. The rest of the bill is the power feed to the pillar, the rack, the safety beams, the remotes and the community paperwork. Those are the lines that catch owners out once work starts.
We wrote this from the gate quotes we review and the 100+ Dubai projects our team has worked on since 2016. Here, Dubai Smart Home prices app control, a motor added to your gate and a new gate, part by part. For the rest of the house, see our Dubai smart home guide.
How much does an automatic gate cost in Dubai in 2026?
An automatic gate in Dubai starts at AED 1,200 to 2,000 if the motor already works and you only add app control, on our published pricing[1]. Adding a motor to your gate starts with a kit of AED 915 to 3,069, supply only, on amazon.ae[2][3]. A new automated gate is quoted after a survey.
Gate automation cost in Dubai splits into three jobs that quotes often mix up:
- App control on a working motor. A small relay is wired to the motor's control board, so your phone does what the remote does.
- A motor added to your gate. The gate stays, and a motor, rack, beams and power feed are added.
- A new automated gate. The gate is made new, with a motor sized for it.
If the gate is part of a wider entrance plan with an intercom and staff codes, our gate automation and access control service designs the whole entrance as one system.
Below, each job is set against our published prices and amazon.ae prices read on 7 October 2026.
| Scope | Typical AED | What is included | Price basis |
|---|---|---|---|
| App control on a working motor | AED 1,200 to 2,000 | Wi-Fi or 4G relay on a CAME, BFT, FAAC or Nice motor | Our price, installed[1] |
| Battery backup added | AED 600 to 1,500 extra | DC controller, battery and a release key box | Our price, installed[1] |
| Budget motor kit | AED 914.99 to 1,376.27 | PNI sliding kit, or two-leaf swing kit | amazon.ae, supply only[2] |
| Branded sliding kit | AED 2,444.63 to 3,068.53 | Somfy Slidymoove with rack, photocells, battery and two remotes | amazon.ae, supply only[3] |
| Two swing motors | About AED 4,862 | Two FAAC 413 motors for a double gate; control unit extra | amazon.ae, supply only[4] |
| Motor added to your gate | Kit plus fitting | Base, rack, power feed, safety devices and setup | Quoted after a free survey |
| New automated gate | Quoted after a survey | Gate made to measure, with its motor | Gate and motor priced together |
| Villa entrance bundle | AED 12,000 to 25,000 | Gate motor, intercom and staff PINs | Our price, installed[1] |
| Full villa access system | AED 25,000 to 60,000 | Gate with battery backup, biometric entry and a 12-month AMC | Our price, installed[1] |
| Year two | AED 2,400 to 7,500 a year; AED 42 to 125 per battery | Annual maintenance contract (AMC) for a whole access system, or one battery | Our price[1]; amazon.ae[5] |
Kit rows are supply only, and bundle rows price a whole entrance. For the rest of a villa budget, see our smart home guide for villa owners.
What does each part of an automatic gate cost?
Each part of an automatic gate has its own price, and the small parts are cheap. On amazon.ae on 7 October 2026, a photocell pair cost AED 25 to about 110 and a 12 V backup battery AED 42 to 125[5]. An installed price adds wiring, testing, setup and, for backup, a DC controller.
Device prices below are supply only unless a row says installed. Fitting is priced after a free site survey.
| Line | UAE price | Source | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Motor kit | AED 914.99 to 3,068.53 | amazon.ae[2][3] | Somfy's kit includes rack, photocells and battery. FAAC's 413 needs a control unit and battery bought separately |
| Gear rack | About AED 125 a metre | amazon.ae[5] | The toothed strip the motor pulls along |
| Photocell pair | AED 25 to about 110 | amazon.ae[5] | A beam across the opening |
| Safety edge | Priced on survey | No UAE retail price found | Priced for the gate's length and control board |
| Backup battery | AED 42 to 125 bare; AED 600 to 1,500 installed | amazon.ae[5]; our price[1] | The installed price is mostly the DC controller |
| Remotes | AED 90 to 128.75 each | amazon.ae[6] | CAME, BFT and Somfy remotes |
| Keypad | AED 35 to about 600 | amazon.ae[5] | One code at the low end, many users or solar at the top |
| Wi-Fi relay | AED 52 to 100 bare; AED 1,200 to 2,000 installed | Our range; amazon.ae[5]; our price[1] | The core of app control |
| GSM relay | AED 73.90 to 312.32 | amazon.ae[5] | Opens by call or SMS. Needs its own SIM plan |
| Power feed | Quoted after survey | Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA)[7] | A new circuit to the pillar if there is no power there |
| Community NOC | AED 0 to 2,500 | Our project experience[1] | Passed through at cost. 7 to 15 working days |
| Year two | AED 2,400 to 7,500 a year | Our AMC[1] | Covers a whole access system, not the gate alone |
Two quotes differ most on the power feed, the safety edge and the labour.
Quick math: a Shelly 1 relay is AED 52 in our Shelly relay listing, yet app control costs AED 1,200 to 2,000 installed. With that relay, over 90 per cent of the price is wiring, testing and app setup. Backup has a similar gap: AED 42 to 125 for a bare battery, AED 600 to 1,500 installed, mostly for the DC controller[1].
To get your gate priced line by line, send a photo of the gate and its motor label on WhatsApp, or book a free site survey.
Should you add a motor to your existing gate or buy a new automated gate?
Adding a motor to your existing gate costs less than a new automated gate, because you keep the gate. Before motorising, Somfy says a sliding gate should be in good condition, balanced, and open and close by hand with a force under 150 N[8]. A gate that fails this check needs repair or replacement first.
In plain terms, one person should be able to slide the gate with a steady push. Somfy also splits its motors in two[8]. Visible motors, such as Elixo, Freevia and Slidymoove, are installed on an existing gate. Integrated motors, such as Roly Smart io, are built into a new gate and cannot be sold separately.
Every weight on a motor box is a maximum. The Slidymoove 300 kit is for gates up to 5 m and 300 kg, and the 600 kit up to 8 m and 600 kg[3]. Choose a motor rated above your gate's real weight, because our guidance is to replace, not repair, a motor that is too small for its gate[1].
Real talk: a new motor will not fix a gate that drags. It just pushes against the drag on every cycle. If your gate scrapes, sags or needs two people to move, fix the wheels, the rails or the gate first. Then price the motor.

Sliding or swing: which costs more to automate in Dubai?
On the branded motors we priced, a double swing gate costs more to automate than a sliding gate, because each leaf needs its own motor. On amazon.ae on 7 October 2026, two FAAC 413 swing motors cost about AED 4,862 before the control unit[4]. A complete Somfy sliding kit cost AED 2,445 to 3,069[3].
Each swing motor has a leaf limit. FAAC's S2500I takes a leaf up to 2.5 m and 250 kg[9], and CAME's ATI up to 1,000 kg and 5 m[10]. The table compares the two on the parts and prices we found.
| Factor | Sliding gate | Swing gate |
|---|---|---|
| Branded price | AED 2,444.63 to 3,068.53 for a Somfy kit[3]. AED 2,500 for a Nice Robus kit[11] | AED 2,430.97 per FAAC 413 motor, two for a double gate[4] |
| Budget kit | AED 914.99, PNI AP800D[2] | AED 1,376.27 for two leaves, PNI MAB300[2] |
| Space needed | A clear run along the wall beside the opening | Clear ground where each leaf opens |
| Extra parts | Rack and base plate | Brackets and a control unit |
| Hidden motor option | Integrated motor in a new gate[8] | Underground motors at the hinge posts |
Most of the price gap is the second motor and its control unit. On a short driveway, the space often decides before the price does. Underground swing motors are their own tier: CAME lists its SUPER FROG for leaves up to 1,500 kg and 8 m[10], and these jobs are priced after a survey.
Which automatic gate motor brands can you buy in Dubai, and at what price?
Only a few brands show a gate motor price in Dubai on mainstream retail sites. On amazon.ae on 7 October 2026, Somfy's Slidymoove kits cost AED 2,444.63 to 3,068.53[3]. A Nice Robus 600 kg kit cost AED 2,500 and a FAAC 413 swing motor AED 2,430.97[11][4]. CAME, BFT and DoorHan are priced through gate installers.
None of those three is sold on mainstream UAE retail sites, so ask for the model number and a written quote. Nice's swing motors are the same. Its Robus sliding range covers gates from 400 to 800 kg, and the RBS600HS has Wi-Fi built in[12]. Beninca, a brand Dubai owners have recommended on Reddit, is priced through installers too.
The Somfy gate motor price depends on the range: Slidymoove kits sell through retail, and Elixo through professionals[8]. The one Elixo kit on amazon.ae is a cross-border Amazon Global listing[13]. Cross-border listings add delivery and may add import handling, and they come without a local distributor's warranty route. FAAC runs a Middle East regional site and exhibited at Intersec Dubai 2026[14].
Somfy is a price reference, not a brand our designs use. We specify CAME, BFT, FAAC, Nice and Centurion for parts availability in Dubai[1]. In our experience, CAME has the widest spare-parts depth, BFT often wins on price and on sliding gates above 600 kg, and FAAC suits underground and hydraulic jobs.
The table shows where each brand was on sale, and at what price.
| Brand | Model seen | UAE price (7 October 2026) | Where it is sold |
|---|---|---|---|
| Somfy | Slidymoove 300 and 600 kits | AED 2,444.63 and 3,068.53, amazon.ae[3] | Retail |
| Somfy | Elixo range | Quote-only. One imported kit at AED 5,123.73 plus AED 366.75 delivery[13] | Professionals |
| Nice | Robus RB600KCE kit | AED 2,500, amazon.ae[11] | One retail seller, and installers |
| Nice | Toona, Hyppo, Wingo | Quote-only | Installers |
| FAAC | 413 swing motor | AED 2,430.97, amazon.ae[4] | Retail |
| FAAC | Delta 3 sliding set | AED 1,696.12 plus AED 309.34 shipping[5] | Ships from Amazon Germany |
| CAME | BX, BXV, BK, ATI | Quote-only | Installers and distributors |
| BFT | Deimos, Ares, Phobos | Quote-only | Installers |
| Centurion | D10 Smart | Quote-only | Installer-retailers |
| US brands | Mighty Mule, LiftMaster, TOPENS | AED 1,129.20 to 14,176.45, amazon.ae[5] | From outside the UAE, built to the US UL 325 standard[15] |
Quote-only does not mean worse. It means you compare model numbers, not shelf prices.
What does the advertised gate price usually leave out?
An advertised gate price usually leaves out the lines that depend on your site. Those are the power feed from your board to the pillar, the rack and its fixing, a concrete base, the safety devices, extra remotes and the community NOC. A "from" price is a starting point for a motor, not a quote for your gate.
If a quote says installation is free, ask which of these lines it covers.
If the gate pillar has no power, a new circuit is run from your board. In its EV charging FAQ, the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) says DEWA-approved electrical contractors should be used for electrical equipment in Dubai[7]. For a gate, that circuit should be run by a DEWA-approved electrical contractor, with earth-leakage protection and weatherproof outdoor fittings.
Building or renovating? Ask for a conduit to the gate pillar at first fix, before the walls close. Across whole-home systems, our team's figure is that wiring at the build stage costs 60 to 70 per cent less than adding it later. Our pre-wiring guide for Dubai homes covers what else to run early.
Common mistake: reading a motor-only price as the installed price. Online answers often quote the motor and stop. Add the power feed, fitting, safety devices and NOC before you compare, or the cheaper quote may only look cheaper.
Which safety devices does an automatic gate need, and what do they add?
An automatic gate should stop or reverse when a car, a child or a pet is in its way. EN 12453, the European standard for powered gates, covers this[16]. On a villa gate the usual devices are a photocell pair across the opening, AED 25 to about 110 on amazon.ae[5], and a safety edge priced on survey.
EN 12453 sets how much force a closing gate may exert before it must stop or reverse, and EN 12445 sets how that force is measured[16]. It is a European standard, not a UAE law. It still gives you a fair question for any installer: which safety devices does this design use to meet it?
Two more standards cover the motor. IEC 60335-2-103, from the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC), is the product-safety standard for electric drives for gates, doors and windows[17]. US openers are built to UL 325 instead[15].
- Photocells. A beam across the opening; breaking it stops the gate. Heavy-duty pairs run up to about AED 420[5].
- Safety edge. A rubber strip on the gate's leading edge that makes it reverse when pressed.
On an older motor, check that the control board has inputs for beams and an edge. If not, the board may need replacing too.
Will a gate motor survive Dubai heat, sand and salt air?
A gate motor can cope with Dubai if it is chosen for the heat, the dust and how often it runs. The UAE recorded 51.2°C at Bada Dafas in Al Dhafra on 5 August 2026, according to the National Centre of Meteorology[18]. On our site surveys, an unshaded gate pillar in Dubai sees surface temperatures well above 60°C in July.
Dust is graded by the IP code. Its first digit runs from 0 to 6 for solids, where 6 means dust-tight[19]. Somfy lists IP44 for its Elixo 500 3S io[20], two steps below dust-tight on that first digit. Ask for the IP rating of both the motor and its control box, because the board's seals matter in a sandstorm.
Somfy does not publish an operating temperature for its Elixo motors on its Gulf product page, so ask for the datasheet figure for the exact model. The amazon.ae listing for the Nice Robus RB600KCE describes a temperature sensor that adapts motor power and thermal protection[11].
Duty cycle says how often a motor can run before it must rest, and one cycle is one open and one close. CAME lists its BX sliding motor at 17 cycles per hour and its BY-3500T at 8, while its BKV runs continuously[10]. FAAC rates its C851 for continuous service[21]. A busy villa gate needs more headroom than a quiet one.
On the coast, at Palm Jumeirah, Jumeirah Bay, Bluewaters and Jumeirah Islands, our designs use 316L (V4A) stainless on exposed gate fittings. Inland, 304 stainless saves 20 to 30 per cent on that hardware[1]. Our Palm Jumeirah area page covers who approves work on the island.
No maker or authority we found gives a lifespan in years for Dubai. Sun on the control box, grit in the rack and an undersized motor shorten it. Our sandstorm guide for smart homes covers dust on other kit, and our outdoor smart home guide for Dubai covers the rest of the garden.

What happens to an automatic gate in a DEWA power cut?
Without a backup battery, an automatic gate stops in a power cut and has to be opened by hand. Cuts in Dubai are rare: DEWA recorded 0.82 Customer Minutes Lost per customer in 2025, about 49 seconds[22]. On our designs, a battery pack gives roughly 8 to 20 open-and-close cycles in a blackout[1].
The cycle count depends on the control board, the gate's weight and the battery, often a 12 V 7 Ah sealed pack[5]. A manual release, which the Nice Robus RB600KCE lists[11], lets the gate be pushed open by hand if mains power and the backup battery both fail. On our designs, the release key sits in a weatherproof box on the pillar[1].
We found no maker figure for gate battery life in Dubai heat, so ask for the backup to be tested at each service visit. Solar openers exist, but the TOPENS AT12132S we priced on amazon.ae is a US import at AED 5,526, shipped from abroad without batteries[23]. For locks and Wi-Fi in a cut, see our power cut guide for Dubai smart homes.
How much does it cost to open your gate from your phone?
Opening a gate from your phone costs AED 1,200 to 2,000 when a Wi-Fi or 4G relay is added to a working motor, on our published pricing[1]. A GSM opener on amazon.ae costs AED 73.90 to 312.32, plus a monthly SIM plan[5].
The relay is a small switch on the motor's control board that sends the remote's signal when you tap the app. Our price covers a Shelly Plus 1, CAME Connect or BFT U-Link module, and the result pairs with Apple Home, Google Home or Alexa[1].
Check the Wi-Fi at the pillar first, because the gate is often far from the router. If it is weak, our home networking and Wi-Fi design can extend it. If it cannot, a GSM relay opens the gate by phone call instead.
Gate remotes use short-range bands that the Telecommunications and Digital Government Regulatory Authority (TDRA) allows under Class Authorization: 433.05 to 434.79 MHz and 865 to 868.6 MHz[24]. Our designs use 433 and 868 MHz remotes, and US 915 MHz remotes from import sites will not pair with them[1]. A personal import needs no TDRA registration, but commercial sale needs type approval[25].
Pro tip: ask whether your remotes use rolling code, where the code changes with each press. On 7 October 2026, amazon.ae listed copy remotes built to duplicate gate remotes at AED 31.50 to 34.99, and a fixed code is one they can learn[6]. Branded does not always mean rolling code: the CAME TOP42FGN, at AED 90, is listed as fixed code.
For the pedestrian door beside the gate, the SwitchBot Keypad Touch, AED 231 in our range, works with SwitchBot locks but does not drive a gate motor. A video doorbell on the pillar, such as the Aqara Video Doorbell G4 at AED 690, works with Apple Home, though its battery life drops in direct sun.
Villas with several gates can run them from one reader system, such as the Ubiquiti UniFi Access Ultra. It is quoted per door, because it needs a lock, power and cabling. Staff codes for drivers and maids are in our domestic staff access guide.
If you want a camera on the gate too, our security and surveillance design covers it. Dubai Police Smart Home Security adds monitoring from AED 147 a month on a three-year plan, but it does not run through the gate motor[26].
Do you need a community NOC or landlord permission to automate a villa gate?
Expect to need a community no-objection certificate (NOC) for a gate motor, as for anything fixed to the outside of a villa[27]. If you rent, you also need the landlord's permission. Dubai Law No. 26 of 2007 says a tenant may not make changes to the property unless the landlord permits it and the required licences are obtained[28].
Rules on automating or changing a boundary gate vary by master developer and community, so check your community's guidelines and NOC process before ordering work. On the villas our team has worked on, community fees have run from nothing to AED 2,500, with approval in 7 to 15 working days[1]. We prepare the NOC paperwork, and any fee is passed through at cost. Our Arabian Ranches area page names the approving body there.
For a rented villa, three articles of Dubai Law No. 26 of 2007 matter[28]:
- Article 19. The tenant needs the landlord's permission, and any required licences, before changing the property.
- Article 16. The landlord repairs defects that affect the tenant's use, unless the contract says otherwise.
- Article 21. The villa goes back in the condition it was received, apart from ordinary wear and tear.
Real talk: if you rent and want to pay for a gate motor yourself, get the landlord's yes in writing first. Agree in the same letter whether the motor stays when you leave. Without that, Article 21 can turn the motor into a move-out dispute. Our smart home guide for landlords covers the other devices.
What does an automatic gate cost to keep running after year one?
After year one, an automatic gate costs you maintenance, batteries and the odd remote. Our annual maintenance contract (AMC) for a whole access system runs AED 2,400 to 7,500 a year from year two. It covers a 6-month preventative visit, battery swaps, firmware updates and one emergency unlock callout[1].
We have not published a gate-only service price, so ask for one in writing if the gate is all you automate. The other year-two lines are small. A bare 12 V 7 Ah battery costs AED 42 to 125[5], and spare remotes AED 90 to 128.75[6]. A GSM opener needs its SIM plan. Repairs are quoted once the workmanship warranty ends; it lasts 12 months and can vary by product.
Ask how many visits the contract includes and whether the safety devices are tested each time. Our smart home AMC guide sets out what a good contract covers.
Should you repair or replace a gate motor that has stopped working?
Repair a gate motor when the fault is a small part. The usual ones on Dubai gates are a capacitor, a limit switch, a photo-beam out of line, a control board corroded after a humid summer, or a flat battery[1]. Replace the motor when it is too small for the gate.
A capacitor helps a mains motor start, and a limit switch tells it where to stop. A beam out of line makes the gate think something is in the way. None of these means the motor is finished.
Replacement is the honest answer when the motor was too small from the start, or the gate grew. Widening a gate, or re-cladding it in heavier material, can push it past the motor's rated weight[1]. On a rented villa, the repair is the landlord's by default under Article 16, unless the contract says otherwise[28].
Have an old motor checked before you pay for app control on top of it. If yours has stopped, send a photo of its label and the fault on WhatsApp. If you live in The Meadows, our area page for The Meadows covers the community NOC that outside work needs there.
How do you read a gate automation quote?
A gate automation quote you can compare names the motor's brand and model and the gate weight it assumes. It prices each part on its own line: rack, base, photocells, safety edge, battery, remotes, power feed, NOC and app setup. A lump sum with no model number is the first red flag.
A quote worth signing also states:
- The gate width the motor was sized for.
- Where the manual release key will be kept.
- How many remotes, and whether they use rolling code.
- Handover, and a 12-month workmanship warranty, which can vary by product.
Other red flags are a motor-only price shown as the whole job and a motor rated at exactly the gate's weight. So are a missing manual release and a cross-border kit with no local warranty route.
Pro tip: photograph the label on your motor before you ask for quotes. It shows the brand and model. Send it with the gate's width, height and material, whether it slides or swings, and whether there is power at the pillar.
For a whole villa access system, our projects run about 3 to 4 weeks from survey to handover. That includes 7 to 15 working days for a community NOC and 1 to 3 days of physical work[1]. If you already hold a gate quote, ask us to review it line by line.
What is the cheapest honest way to automate a Dubai gate?
The cheapest honest route is app control on a motor that already works, at AED 1,200 to 2,000 on our published pricing[1]. If there is no motor yet, budget kits sold for AED 914.99 to 1,376.27 on amazon.ae on 7 October 2026[2]. Their weight ratings are seller claims, not test results.
One rack-driven opener on amazon.ae, the CO-Z 1400 lb at AED 2,197.87, has reviews reporting remote range that falls away beyond about 20 ft. Others report failures within weeks to 3 years[5]. Size any motor from a branded datasheet, not a seller's claim.
Buying online does not make the power side DIY. DEWA's EV charging FAQ says DEWA-approved electrical contractors should be used for electrical equipment in Dubai[7], so leave the feed to the pillar to one. If you already have a motor, a relay from our smart switches and lighting range is the core of app control. It still has to be wired into the gate's board and tested.
Real talk: for some villas, the cheapest honest answer is no motor at all. If you open the gate a few times a week and park inside anyway, the upkeep may not be worth it. If the gate fails Somfy's hand-push check, motorising it now wastes the money. And if you rent without written consent, a motor you paid for may have to come off at move-out.
How Dubai Smart Home plans gate automation and access
Brand matters less than three choices you make before anyone quotes. The first is whether the gate is worth keeping. The second is battery backup, with a manual release everyone can find. The third is how people get in: remote, app, code or reader. Settle those, and two quotes for the same gate describe the same job.
We survey the gate and the pillar, check whether the gate passes the hand-push test, and specify the motor, safety devices and backup by model. We prepare the NOC paperwork, coordinate the works through to handover, and configure the app, remotes and staff codes. The motor is mounted, the rack is fixed and the power feed is run as part of those works. The workmanship carries a 12-month warranty, which can vary by product.
Our smart gate and access control service prices a villa entrance with a gate motor, intercom and staff PINs at AED 12,000 to 25,000[29]. We are rated 4.9/5 by Dubai homeowners. For a price on your own gate, book a free design consultation, or send a photo of the gate and its motor label on WhatsApp.
